Mechatronics (M.Eng.)
Mechatronics is one of the key technologies of our time. The demand for engineers with equal knowledge of mechanics, electronics and computer science is growing steadily across all industries.
The ASIIN-accredited Master's degree program is offered both full-time and part-time. It leads to the internationally recognized degree of Master of Engineering (M. Eng.).
What is Mechatronics?
Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary engineering discipline which combines these three engineering disciplines:
- Mechanical
- Electronics / Electrical
- Informatics
Increasingly, these branches depend upon mechatronics:
- The Automobile Industry
- The Fields of Medicine
- Precision Engineering
- Equipment Technology
- Robotics and many others (see chart)
Through a thorough grounding in the natural sciences, this Master´s course of study in Mechatronics/ Precision Engineering prepares you to realize your full abilities in the following professions:
- Research
- Development
- Design Engineering
- Produkction
- Marketing and Service
Graduates have acquired the skills to plan and construct mechatronic and precision engineering products. Our graduates know how to build models, simulations and understand the best application of metrics and control systems. They can analyze, integrate and optimize mechanical, electronic and optical components.
German Language Requirement
Note: A lot of lecturers are held in the German language. Competency in spoken and written German sufficient as to succesfully complete the Bachelor or Master Courses of Study is required.
Requirements
The requirement for acceptance into the Master´s Program is a diploma from either an accredited German university, with the mark "gut" or better or the equivalent from an accredited foreign university in the fields of natural science or engineering. Candidates who have demonstrated exceptional work in the natural sciences or professionally may be accepted regardless of their achieving the minimum grade point average. Succesful completion of a second industrial semester in undergraduate studies at the Bachelor level or a minimum 18 week industrial placement is also required.
Enrollment
Courses start:Annaually on October 1st or March 15th
Enrollment periode for courses starting October 1st: May 1st to June 15th

We teach both the academic and business skills of professional engineering. Together with you, we develop your executive and decision making abilities in the Master´s course of study in Mechatronics. The professional skills of social networking, communication and working in teams are developed in our program. Our goal is to provide you with the best possible background for a changing future through a large palette of professional and integral competencies.
To achieve this end, we offer a well balanced combination of theory and practical application, advanced and custom modules, profession-specific knowledge and a thorough grounding in the natural sciences. You need a solid foundation for the demanding profession of engineering, a foundation we are well equipped to help you learn. Your course of study is your contribution to both our society and our environment, the basis for how you define your future, and your relationships to others both socially and professionally. The enormous expansion of products based on mechatronics offer a high degree of professional security for the future, we offer you the skills to embrace this future constructively and productively.
This course of study is modular and can be custom tailored to meet your interests and needs through academic concentrations within the course of study. There is a broad palette of required electives available to meet your academic and soft skill set needs (Course Catalog).
Our integration with foreign universities makes possible a Master´s program which not only offers you international experience but also provides an exceptionally high level of academic competence.
Within the framework of the multi-national module “Product Development Project” we have realized a cooperative program with the leading university in the field, the Technical University of Helsinki,Finland. “Modeling and Testing of Products and Processes” is an English language based course which is offered in cooperation with the Technical University of Tallinn,Estonia. The module “Multibody Dynamics” is offered exclusively in the English language.
A growing and dynamic range of modules taught by invitation through international instructors has furthered our goal of internationally relevant study. Required elective modules are in planning in cooperation with the Technical University of Helsinki and the Technical University of Tallinn. We are eager to expand and extend our catalog of modules offered in cooperation with foreign universities, these recognized modules are offered for full credit alongside the modules offered at the university in Munich as set out in the Studien- und Prüfungsordnung (Study and Exam Regulations).
Our Graduates are well-positioned to achieve their Career and Professional Goals
The field of mechatronics is integral to the development of innovative and future oriented products and systems. Nearly all capital and consumer products contain mechatronic components and require precision engineering. The high tech branch has a special place in the economy of Bavaria. The regions of Upper Bavaria and Munich, with the Munich University of Applied Sciences at their heart, are home to a broad range of firms in the branches of data processing, radio, television and information technologies, electrical products, aerospace and space industries are all located in this area. All of them are increasingly dependent upon mechatronic products and the miniaturization of components in their products and processes. Equally well represented in the region are automobile manufacturers and their suppliers as well as enterprises engaged in medical, metrics, control systems, cybernetics and optics. Mechatronic products and production systems are becoming ever more important in these fields and contribute significantly to their economic growth.
