Excursion to Texas Instruments
Students gain an exclusively insight into semiconductor production at Texas Instruments in Freising.

In November, four students from the master's course in Micro and Nanotechnology visited Texas Instruments in Freising together with Prof. Katja Beha to discuss semiconductor technology and visit a wafer production facility.
Texas Instruments is one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world. The European headquarters are located in Freising. Electronic components have been manufactured here since 1966 and wafer production began in 1976. Today, around 400,000 wafers are produced at the site every year.
Semiconductor production takes place under the highest hygiene standards. The clean room area at FAB in Freising is around 10,000 square meters in size. As part of the excursion, the students were able to visit the cleanroom and learn about the individual production steps.
The excursion ended with a joint lunch in the presence of former students from our department.
An intensive exchange with industrial partners is the goal of the EU-funded project CHIPS of Europe (www.chipsofeurope.eu), coordinated by the Munich University of Applied Sciences, in which training in the field of semiconductor technology is to be improved, among other things, by strengthening the network with industrial partners through excursions such as the one to TI.
