A Guest from Marquarie University in Australia at the Photonics Colloquium

Exciting presentation on laser-written structures and elements in optical waveguides and ultrashort pulse lasers in the mid-infrared
24/04/2024
A distinguished guest from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, graced our Photonics colloquium on a Friday in April 2024. Professor Dr. Alex Fürbach shared illuminating insights into his groundbreaking research on laser-processing of optical waveguides and elements for integrated photonics in the mid-infrared spectrum. He delved into the imperative of ultrashort pulse lasers operating above 2µm-wavelengths and elucidated potential avenues for their realization.
In addition to his presentation, Professor Dr. Fürbach provided a glimpse into his ongoing research endeavors at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, where he is currently on sabbatical, collaborating with Nobel Prize laureate Ferenc Krausz’ group on attosecond spectroscopy.
Following the presentation, the approximately 30 attendees engaged in a Q&A session, sparking a vibrant discussion. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Dr. Fürbach for his enlightening visit and eagerly anticipate continued collaboration and communication across the seas. Thank you, Alex Fürbach!
